Disciples Escoffier Young Talent 2013


The champion of the Asian Final Competition of Disciples Escoffier Young Talent Trophy 2013 is born! After months of pre-selections from 8 different Asian Regions, plus 3 days of intense competition in during Restaurant and Bar 2013 (3rd Sept – 5th Sept), in which the eight young chefs have gave their best to fight vie for the culinary crown, and the competition has finally come to an end. 

This year’s winner of the Asian Final Round of the Disciples Escoffier Young Talent Trophy (DEYTT) 2013 is

LEE WON YONG

The winner of the Asian Final Round will now move on to represent Asia in the World Competition 2014 to be held in Lille, France.


On 3rd September, all the candidates were required to prepare the themed dish Poached Egg “Mignon”. Then in the second round of the competition on the following day, they were called on to create a dish with salmon. After four candidates had been eliminated following the second round, the remaining four with the highest combined scores from the previous two days, Chris Wong (Hong Kong), Zhao Yuan Cheng (Macau), Lee Won Yong (South Korea) and Ton Nu Hong Loan (Vietnam), proceeded to the final day to undertake the final challenge based on the theme “Beef and Pastry”

Chris WONG from G7 Private Dining is the winner of Hong Kong pre-selection of the DEYTT 2013 held on 22nd July 2013. He has impressed the judges with his creative take on the themed dish – Pan-fried Duck Breast with Bigarade Sauce. 
                       

Now as the official Hong Kong representative, Chris will compete with seven other regional winners from Macau, China, Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines for the Asian championship.  

 
The final round of competition will take place during “Restaurant & Bar Hong Kong 2013 at Disciples Escoffier Theatre, Hall 5F-G, Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre on 3rd- 5th September. (Please click here a detailed map.)
 
The Grand Opening of the Asian Final Round of DEYTT 2013 will make the scene in the Disciples Escoffier Theatre at 3:30pm on 3rd September, followed by three days of culinary challenges for the contestants. 

During the 3 day competition, the 8 candidates will have different themed ingredients each day as a challenge to test their cooking abilities. Their ultimate goal is to emerge from other contestants and create a unique dish of their own to impress the judges. After the second round on 4th September, 4 candidates will be eliminated and 4 will proceed to the last round of competition.

The last round of comeptition will take place on 5th September, with the theme "Beef and Pastry". The Prize Presentation Ceremony on 4:00pm, 5th September will then mark the closing of this exciting event with the newly born Asian Young Talent Champion Chef.

Chef Iwao Oba, the Japan President of the Disciples Escoffier will act as the head judge while all members of the jury will judge the performance of each contestant in a fair and professional manner.

The winner of the Asian Final Round of the Disciple Escoffier Young Talent Trophy 2013 will not only bring the glory to himself and his country, but will also move on to represent Asia in the World Competition 2014 to be held in Lille, France.

Besides the exciting competition which will take place every day, the Disciples Escoffier Theatre will present Escoffier Chef Demonstrations by celebrity chefs Jaakko Sorsa (FINDS), Jeremy Biasiol (Mirror Restaurant) and Eddy Leung (Chef Studio), and many more.
